My Story
Erika Mathur, M.A. Ed.
Why I became a Parent Coach
My passion for supporting parents began long before I became a parent myself. Growing up in Europe, I started working with children with special needs and their families in my late teens. I loved the work and felt privileged to support families through both challenges and successes.
After moving to the United States and starting my own family, I looked forward to raising my children with the same care and intention I had brought to my professional work. The early years were filled with joy, wonder, and deep connection.
As my children grew older, however, I found myself facing challenges I had not anticipated. Despite my background in early childhood education, I often felt uncertain, overwhelmed, and anxious about whether I was meeting their needs in the way I hoped. I wanted to be a calm, connected parent, but something was getting in the way.
That realization led me to work with a parent coach.
Through that experience, I gained a deeper understanding of myself, my parenting patterns, and the beliefs that were shaping my responses to my children. I learned practical tools, but more importantly, I learned how to approach parenting with greater awareness, intention, confidence, and connection.
The impact was profound. The work transformed not only my relationship with my children, but also my relationship with myself. It inspired me to become a Certified Parent Coach so I could help other parents experience the same kind of growth and possibility.
I don't believe perfect parenting exists. I do believe that every parent deserves support, encouragement, and practical guidance. It is an honor to help parents build stronger relationships with their children and create more connection, cooperation, and confidence in their families.
The Experience I Bring to This Work
My family is multicultural, multilingual, and multiracial. Having been born and raised in Hungary before building my life in the United States, I understand many of the unique joys and challenges that come with raising children between cultures and languages, while creating a sense of belonging and identity within a family.
For more than 30 years, I have worked closely with children and families in home, school, and community settings. My experience spans a wide range of developmental, learning, and behavioral needs, giving me a deep appreciation for the fact that every child and every family is unique.
I hold a master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education, a graduate-level certificate in Positive Behavior Support, and have completed extensive training in early childhood social-emotional development. I also earned my Parent Coaching Certification through the Jai Institute for Parenting.
What matters most, however, is not the list of credentials. It is the understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. My personal and professional experiences allow me to meet parents with empathy, respect, and practical guidance tailored to their family's unique circumstances, strengths, and goals.
